What Is It About Knives?

We’re back with another startup review video. Matt is going over Twinsteel. Twinsteel is another knife set that claims to be better than the rest on the market. But with all the other variations of knives out there, is it really anything special? Watch to see what Matt thinks.

Here’s the problem, cheap knives go dull and they’re a total pain to use. Our knives are razor sharp. But what makes them truly special, they stay sharp. Introducing Twin Steel. We fuse ultra-hard Swedish steel to the cutting edge of our blades. The result, knives that state razor sharp. Meal after meal. Twin steel is ground thinner towards the edge for even easier cutting. So you go from this to this. Our five-piece set covers all the essentials, from precision work with our paring knife to carving up a Sunday roast with the serrated knife. You’ll always have the right knife for a job.

Matt’s Review:

I don’t know what it is about knives. I can remember as a kid watching Ginsu knife commercials where the guy would cut through a tin can or a nail and then go on to slice 15 tomato slices. And prove that the knife was sharp and it was amazing and, you know, best thing since sliced bread. I mean knives have been around since almost the beginning of human history, of various qualities and kinds. So when somebody comes out and says, you know, got a brand new invention it’s a knife. Okay. It’s a slightly different variation on something that we’ve had for Millennium. But I don’t know maybe their treatment of steel is better. Maybe it does stay sharper longer. It certainly has a lot of people interested. Again something weird about knives. You wouldn’t think you could get the same reaction from a lot of other kitchen tools that you pick up. But somehow over and over again people invent new knives. Or pitch that they’ve invented new knives and seem to generate a lot of interest. So these guys may be able to do it too. Will they have the staying power? I think Ginsu knives are still around. Will these guys be around in 40 years still pitching their new invention of a knife that stays sharp? Who knows? I wish them luck I don’t know if there’s enough differentiation here to really catch on. But then I don’t know that Ginsu knives really were that different either. But you know they figured it out. So we’ll see. I think a lot of it in this space has to do with luck more than anything else. Just catching at the right time, with the right name, and somehow catching people’s attention and getting them to give it a try. And if it works great. You know maybe you get word of mouth and you get residual sales. But I don’t know just from the video which way these guys will go. Hopefully it works out for them.
