IS This Beverage Cooler Better Than the Freezer?

We’re back again with another startup from an Indiegogo project. In this video, Matt reviews the product, Q-Speed Cooler. This product claims to be the best solution to make beverages cold without some of the cons that come with a normal cooler or using a fridge. See what Matt has to say about this startup product.

Do any of these scenes look familiar? You have to go on yet another ice run. Or did you forget your wine bottle in the freezer? Tired of wet wine labels? Or soggy drinks? Introducing the Q Speed Cooler. It doesn’t require any ice or water. It’s energy-friendly and super fast. It’s for all types of bottles. It’s ultra-fast. It’s three times faster than a fridge.

Matt’s Review:

I already have thoughts on it. And the first thought is I don’t think any of the problems they’ve described are worth a gadget solution, right? So running out of ice, yes, if you’re planning to have an event you wanna buy a couple of extra bags of ice. It’s not a big deal. You run out of ice once, it tends to help you remember not to do it again. Wine labels that stick to the bottle. I don’t know how many people have that problem. I don’t think it’s a big problem. I think if you care about the wine label you probably don’t submerge it in an ice bucket. And then you know soggy drinks or whatever is not really, you know, drink it faster than the ice melts. By the time the ice is melted, the party is probably close to over. Whatever. Bottom line is this thing they said it’s 3 times faster than the fridge. They don’t say how much faster it is than sticking something in the freezer, which is where I stick something if I – it’s warm or room temperature and I want it cold fast. I stick it in the freezer. And then the other thing is, it only does one bottle at a time. So suppose you did run out of ice for your party. Do you only have one bottle at your party? That’s a pretty small party. So you suppose you had this thing handy, you could stick one bottle in it and faster than the fridge but maybe not much faster than the freezer, you have a reasonably cold drink of one bottle of whatever. It just – this feels to me like they’re trying really hard to engineer a solution to a problem that isn’t that serious. And that it doesn’t solve that well to begin with. If you said this thing can make a drink take a bottle of wine from room temperature to the right drinking temperature. Like a white wine down to the right drinking temperature or can of beer from room temperature to drinking temperature in 30 seconds. Cool, I can get cold beers for myself and three friends in less than two minutes by using that. But if it takes 15 or 20 minutes I could just take that six-pack in the freezer. Or I could have planned ahead and bought ice. I just don’t think that this is a compelling enough problem for the solution that they come up with that’s only a partial solution that’s not that much better than the other options but costs a lot more and isn’t any more convenient. So I don’t have a lot of excitement for this one. I don’t think that this is really gonna take off and go anywhere because it’s not better enough to make a difference. And if you’re gonna do something like this you need to be levels of magnitude, orders of magnitude better than just this partial, a little bit better in certain circumstances for only one thing at a time solution. It just doesn’t cut it.
