Business Advice Video:
Here is a pretty passive business. It is the Skittles vending machine but it’s like a cool vending machine. It’s got a touch screen. You can pick your flavors. You can customize it however you want. It is $10,000 to buy. And to me, that’s not bad. Now the cool thing about this is it’s nearly all automatic. You pay your $10,000. You get it delivered to you. And now you have to find a location. It accepts cash or card. And you never have to go there to check on the product. The machine communicates back with the home offices. And it just knows that you’re about to run out of red Skittles.
Matt’s Review:
I’m pretty sure Skittles is the same candy that just got in trouble for having chemicals that aren’t food in them. So I don’t know if they resolve that problem. Hopefully they’re working on that if they haven’t already. I know there’s a lot of countries where you can’t buy that kind of product because the chemicals that they use to make them aren’t considered food. So okay that problem aside. That’s a lot of money to invest in a machine that just sells Skittles. A typical vending machine has chips, has power bars, has drinks, snacks, healthy snacks, salty snacks, whatever. And people can choose. And yeah it doesn’t do anything cool. It doesn’t make you a mixed cup of Skittles. But it accommodates a lot of tastes. But how often do people wanna buy a cup full of Skittles? And are they willing to pay a premium to design the flavor of Skittles that fall into the cup? And then spend the time watching the Skittles drop out of the tubes and fill the cup up? I don’t see it. And again maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’m out of touch. Maybe there’s a huge cohort of Skittles lovers out there that would be all about this and be daily customers of the Skittles vending machine. But I don’t think so. I think it is cool once for a couple of minutes. And then that’s it. So if you could put it in a location that gets a million people walking through a day. Like an airport. Maybe it attracts enough attention and you get enough sales that it’s worth it. But outside of that, I mean, in just the, you know, typical place you see a vending machine in the lobby of an office building, or a car wash, or whatever. I just have a hard time thinking that this is gonna recoup the money as fast or at all compared to a soda vending machine or a chip and snack vending machine. That has more options and may catch people impulsively who wanna get something to eat that’s not Skittles. That’s actually food. So I don’t know. again I could be wrong but it’s just hard for me to imagine that this is the amazing passive income investment that is gonna really change people’s lives. And put them on the path to entrepreneurship by selling custom Skittles cups.
