Business Advice Video:

The best business advice I’ve ever received. Don’t think about what you are going to get, but be obsessed with what value you can bring to other people’s lives.

Matt’s Review:

I think that’s generally good advice if you stop at, think about what you can do for other people.  It doesn’t have to be life changing, right? If you start a car detailing business, you’re not changing anybody’s life by giving them a cleaner, nicer looking car. But you are providing a service and you’re hopefully, when you’re done, at the end they go, wow, that looks really good. It’s like brand new. And they’re happy about that. And they’re willing to pay for that service. And they’re willing to come back and tell their friends. And you’ve done a good job. And your thought process during the car detailing that you’re doing is I want to do a really good job and really impress this customer and really give them a great experience. If you’re just thinking, I want to get through this as quick as I can so I can get paid the 100 bucks for doing this detail job and then do another one, you’re not going to do a great job. They’re going to notice that you didn’t do a great job. They’re not going to come back. They’re going to go somewhere else. So the general advice of if you’re running a business, make sure you’re taking care of your customers, you’re giving them a good experience, you’re doing the best you can for them. You’re not gonna make all of them happy. You’re occasionally gonna make mistakes, screw things up, have cases where you probably should give them a refund or at least apologize for not doing the best job you could have. But if by and large your focus is that, is to do a great job, then the rest will follow. If you’re focused on how do I get paid, how do I make money, how can I get the most out of this, you’re gonna have a much harder time of it. I think that is absolutely true and I think that is a good way to think about going into business is how can you provide something great for the people that you’re hoping to do business with. If you come at it from that angle, I think you’re gonna be successful.
