Business Advice Video:
Etsy is so oversaturated, I would never sell on Etsy. The key to making organic sales on Etsy is selling products that people actually want to buy. And I know this sounds like a really broad, fluffy general statement, but here’s what that boils down to. You need to identify niches on Etsy that customers are looking for in really, really high demand, but there are not many Etsy sellers. Listing products in those niches yet. And for better or worse, people will continue to buy new stuff. Because it’s new and it’s trendy. If you can be one of the first people selling that new trendy thing, you can make sales.
Matt’s Review:
I would agree that you want to sell things that people want to buy. But the strategy that she’s advocating here is very challenging. There are a lot of people watching trends, waiting to
pounce on new memes, new sayings, new words, new ideas, new images, whatever happens to trend for a moment. So you can get into doing things that way, looking for something that suddenly spikes high demand and doesn’t have a lot of people fulfilling it yet, but there’s going to be a very narrow window of opportunity to sell into that. So you’ve constantly got to be on top of it, you’ve got to create something that resonates with the group, and then you have to be planning on it not lasting very long. You can build a business that way, but it’s really hard because you’re constantly chasing something and you’re constantly losing it again. As soon as that trend or whatever, the spiked demand goes away, or there’s 4,000 competitors filling up the spot. If you want a long-term stable business, you can work on year after year, grow and build real wealth with, then you want to identify a customer base that you can work with for years and sell them things that they’re interested in, not because of some meme or some TikTok video they saw yesterday that now they want it today. But because they’re invested for the long term in that hobby, or that passion, or that team, or that whatever affiliate group they’re part of, or they’re affiliated with. That’s how you grow a long-term business that doesn’t require you to constantly be chasing trends and hoping to get in before the horde of other people who also saw that trend and are also trying to beat you for those very ephemeral customers.
