One of the advantages franchise owners have is a built-in network of people in the exact same business they are in, who they can lean on for tips and suggestions. They can compare notes and results and learn from the collective wisdom. This is one of their most powerful advantages and one they should make full use of as often as they can.
But this isn’t just something you can do if you’re in a franchise. I just got back from a conference of ecommerce accountants, and it was a tremendous experience. This is my third year going, and every time I learn new things and get to ask other business owners questions about how they tackle certain problems or solve issues in their businesses.
And it’s super helpful because their businesses look a lot like mine!
So how can you take advantage of something similar? Look around!

Almost all major business types have associations or membership groups. The bigger the business type, the more likely they are to also have subgroups and geographic groups. Do some quick searching and find yours. Make sure it’s active and you can connect directly with other members. Then, jump in and connect.
It may not even have to be that formal- Reddit is a great place to find groups, as is Facebook. You can learn a ton from simply posting in forums and reading and pondering the replies.
No matter what business you are in, there are other business owners doing the same thing and having some of the same challenges you are, and figuring out how to solve them in ways that may be different than your ideas. Check them out and see what you can learn. And if you can help someone else, do it. Karma is a real thing!
