Business Advice Video:

Ryan, I’m trying to start a business, but I don’t even know where to start. Instead of focusing on, oh, I need to go find this person to do this or this person to do this. Or instead of focusing on, I’m going to build this, I’m going to solve a problem. People always focus on the problem. I think you need to align yourself with purpose. That’s also going to help you wake up every day. Once you have the purpose and you’re aligned on the purpose to your soul, to your core, then it’s the people are going to align yourself with your exact opposite. People all the time go and try to build companies with all their Doppelgangers. But when you’re building a company, you start your own company, you want to attract people that do the exact opposite of what you do. And you want them to scare you all day long. You don’t want to hire anyone that doesn’t scare you. So you have the right purpose, match them with the right people. Those two things together are in an atomic bomb of opportunity. You can create whatever product you want.

Matt’s Review:

OK, I agree with the idea that having a purpose is going to be the most powerful driver. Definitely wanting to get into business just to be rich or to make a lot of money is a terrible motivation because it’s going to take a long time to get there, and you’re not going to be able to push through to that point. So having a purpose, having a reason that you want to do this that goes beyond money or is totally independent of money, that gets you up in the morning, that makes you want to keep pushing forward, that’s what’s going to make you successful. And then I also agree that if you have the right people. Not necessarily exact opposites or people who scare you. I don’t really understand that comment that he made. But having people that you work with who are also motivated to do a great job, to achieve a purpose, to do more than just collect a paycheck once a week, that is gonna give you the ability to create something great. Whether it’s what you started out thinking you were gonna create or whether it morphs into something else over time, which happens a lot, the right people who are smart and motivated and intrinsically want to see something get achieved are going to achieve it. People who are there for a paycheck, there to ride coattails, there to just say yes, there to be in the circle of cool, they’re not gonna help you. They’re gonna get in the way. They’re gonna seem like they’re trying to help, but they’re not gonna help, and that’s gonna hold you back. So have a purpose beyond just getting rich, making money, and have people there who are good, smart, hardworking, intrinsically motivated people. You will find success if you stick with it.
